The pillow recycling process
Our recycling process will begin with the sortation of the incoming pillows based on material type and quality. Once sorted, the pillows will be deconstructed a separated between the fiber fill and the casings. The casings will need to be cut into specific sizes that will determine the length of the fibers after the opening process. These “chopped” pieces will then be combined with the pillow filling and run through a series of fiber opening machines (see picture insert). Once opened, the resulting fiber will closely resemble the fiber that is in the fill of the pillows themselves. This will allow for 100% recyclability of the entire pillow. After completing the opening process, this fiber can be used in a number of different applications - for example, air filters in a home.
